How far can the character of Othello be described as a tragic hero in the true Shakespearian meaning?

Othello can be described as a true tragic hero for a few reasons:

1. He is a person of some stature and high position (important general)

2. He is basically a good person and he is seen as a worthwhile person

3. He possesses a character trait that under normal circumstances would be considered a virtue but under the circumstances in the play proves to be a fatal flaw (passion)

4. He is ultimately responsible for the deed which commences his downfall (murder of Desdemona)

5. Has a distorted perception, or is blind to, reality

6. He recognizes his mistakes in the end

7. He dies
