I believe that most people don't give people like wiL enough credit for being a true person. He's not arrogant like most rock stars are like Alex V. from Atreyu. He really cares about his fans.

He seems fake...like he's faking being real if that makes any sense. The band is average, but every song is about a nightmare, and some of the lyrics are childish.

Considering the only reasons you listed were about him caring about his fans and not being arrogant, I wouldn't consider him a hero at all. Modern rockers are generally down-to-earth kids who happened to be in the right place at the right time or something ridiculous like that.
