How far can Othello be described as a tragic hero? In the true Shakespearean meaning?

Completely. (It's not a Shakespearean term, however. It goes back a few thousand years before his time.) Othello is a noble man who makes a bad judgement which leads to his downfall. This is relatively indisputable. What is interesting is to hear what various people will say is the bad judgement. How far can Othello be described as a tragic hero? In the true Shakespearean meaning?
Because he dies instead of living happily every after! What's more painful than being deceived into killing the person you love most in the world. That's tradgic..........How far can Othello be described as a tragic hero? In the true Shakespearean meaning?
Shakespeare's Othello is based on a work by an Italian Novelist/Poet named Cinthio who was heavily influenced by Catholic Reform and European theatre. But Cinthio's work, like Shakespeare's has its roots in Greek tragedy. Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, believed chance played such a heavy factor in the life of man that it prevents man from being able to control his destiny. Othello's story is the story of that one man running a course of events affected by that chance, who rises and falls, from glory and happiness to suffering and agony.

Othello is professional soldier with little experience with women. His tales of glory win him a Love, the wife whom he is later deceived into murdering. Racism, love, jealousy, betrayal, murder end in suicide for Othello, a true Shakespearean tragic hero.
