Hugo Chavez has transformed Venezuela in favour of the working class people. The profits made from the countries economy are no longer going towards funding obscenely privellaged lifestyles for a tiny minority of businessmeen but towards improving the lives of the people. Chavez has the true democratic support of his people and when the CIA tried to overthrow his government in 2002 with a right wing dictatorship, the people helped to defeat the coup. There is criticism over the closeing down of a tv station that supported this coup and advocated the murder of Chavez. However, could you imagine if CNN supported a coup against the democratically elected government of the US and advocated the murder of George Bush, the owners of the station would be charged with treason let alone the station cllosed down. People condemning this closure are hypocrits. Do people agree that Hugo Chavez is a working class hero. The US could do with a man like himHugo Chavez, a true hero of the people?
I totally agree with you. You can see all these people who answered you, filled up with american propaganda, having in mind that anything else besides capitalism is dictatorship(like the US is democratic!!hahaha). I'm really glad you are open minded. And for all of you turning into zombies by the propaganda, let's not forget how many dictatorships the US established in Latin America the last 30 years in the name of ''Democracy';Hugo Chavez, a true hero of the people?
Keep telling yourself that.
Treason is a high crime and has a specific definition, which the hypothetical you provide does not meet unless an actual rebellion were to begin. It is possible that CNN executives could be tried under the Smith Act, but no one has been charged under it since 1961 and the end of McCarthyism.
Hugo Chavez has done some things in favor of the working class. He has also reaped great harm upon the national economy. Venezuela has runaway inflation, and Chavez's attempts at making widespread use of price controls will fail because of problems inherent in a command economy. The social programmes only avail you so much when there are shortages of food in the grocery stores.
Chavez is a populist and not a committed socialist. Socialist programmes are difficult to implement without excessive inefficiencies when attempted by liberal democracies. When attempted by populist dictators, the results have invariably ended up being unfortunate for rich and poor alike.
';Now, if we are to form a real judgment of the life of the just and unjust, we must isolate them; there is no other way; and how is the isolation to be effected? I answer: Let the unjust man be entirely unjust, and the just man entirely just; nothing is to be taken away from either of them, and both are to be perfectly furnished for the work of their respective lives. First, let the unjust be like other distinguished masters of craft; like the skilful pilot or physician, who knows intruitively his own powers and keeps within their limits, and who, if he fails at an point, is able to recover himself. So let the injust make his unjust attempts in the right way, and lie hidden if he means to be great in his injustice (he who is found out is nobody): for the highest reach of injustice is, to be deemed just when you are not. Therefore I say that in the perfectly unjust man we must assume the most perfect injustice; there is to be no deduction, but we must allow him, while doing the most unjust acts, to have acquired the greatest reputation for justice. If he have taken a false step he must be able to recover himself; he must be one who can speak with effect, if any of his deeds come to light, and who can force his way where force is required by his courage and strength, and command of money and friends. And at his side let us place the just man in his nobleness and simplicity, wishing, as Aeschylus says, to be and not to seem good. . .';
Populists, quite by necessity, must behave as Plato's unjust man.
Chavez is a crook, he's no good and up to no good. He's no better than the terrorists, Read up on him-totally one time.
I TOTALLY agree with the comment left under mine here.
Just like his buddy Castro.
chavez will never step aside voluntarily. he is dictator for life. i could care less because it wont be long before his oil supply will dry up and he wont have any more money to buy support from his cronies to keep him in power. he is no better than castro
How can you say, someone that is on the verge of being a dictator, silencing the media, turning to a socialist, near communist government a hero. Look at what's going on. He isn't a hero, he is delusional, he is starting things just like Hitler did when he brought the Nazi party into power in Germany. Nationalizing industries is just a form a communism. Silencing the media, how is that being a hero? That's abusing his power, and turning the country into a communist regime.
So, you want some some egotisical ';friend of the people'; who wears suits that costs thousands. Who is so insecure in his office that he offically silences critics. Right. calling for civil war no doubt. But oh, that's right Mr. ';friend of the people'; doesn't like free speech. Right.,..he's quite the ';freedom fighter'; ( LMAO!!!!!! that's a joke right?).
Just because you want to believe every little piece of propaganda put out by this meglomanic dictator and be lead around by your nose doesn't mean the rest of us want jerks like him.
Oh, my friend, stop it! Are you serious? Wait a few years, see what the economy of his country is like, and see how many of the people who are poor today or still poor then. Answer; All of them plus many, many more.
He's a dangerous man. And he is starting to silence all the press over in Venezuela. Wait until it becomes total communism.
You mean Little Fidel? That's why his own people are ready to overthrow him because he is so good to them?
he is not normal, i think
I disagree. With all of it. What have you been smoking?
We need more like Hugo..cannot get enough of them.
