What are the qualities of a true hero?

This is something that I've always wondered about.What are the qualities of a true hero?
A true hero? The time of heroes has been long over, dude. And there was really never something like a ';true hero'; exist in history. Because nobody's perfect (I mean PERFECT), while a ';true hero'; should be ';perfect';.

And it's not how a human's society works. Perhaps the last century can show it clearly, that even the ones who became ';heroes'; turned out to be the most destroyers in the history. When the 20th century finished in practice, actually the age of ';Fuhrer';s and ';Imam';s finished.What are the qualities of a true hero?
I think a hero is similar to what the other answerer said. I believe that a hero is someone who will do something dangerous for anyone, even a complete stranger, without hesitating. I believe that this is also a very hard question to answer, because everyone has very different answers, depending on who they WANT to see it, not necessarily on how they actually see it. I think everyone wants to be a hero, even if only a small bit, but most aren't actually willing to do something that would make them a hero in the eye of whoever they're trying to impress, be it the public or their lover. I went off on a bit of a tangent here, but again, a hero is someone who knows right from wrong, and does the right thing whenever they're needed.
someone who has the ability to think and act beyond themselves for the better cause of others, but still maintain personal integrity so they don't lose themselves in others. It is a balancing act of selflessness and self respect.

At least that is what I has observed in those I call true heroes.
Cowards die many times before their deaths;

The valiant never taste of death but once.

Shakespeare: Julius Caesar Act 2, scene 2.

It goes on:

Of all the wonders that I yet have heard,

It seems to me most strange that men should fear;

Seeing that death, a necessary end,

Will come when it will come.

One of my ancestors survived the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade.

I always assumed that he was so scared, he rode faster than the others.

We have two Victoria Crosses in the family, both awarded posthumously. One young man, during the Boer War, was a messenger. He was shot seven times before he actually gave up trying to deliver the message. Now that's just plain stupid! Must have been a hero.

Giving your life trying to rescue a wounded comrade is a heroic deed.

Otherwise, just pray for better body armour.
A true hero is selfless yet believes in them self, humble yet confident, determined yet knows his limits, brave yet knows when to stop, and gentle yet tough.
patience to challenge the emergence of a mundane realm as an alchemical marriage of opposites to transcend the mutations of existence.
