How do know that Kerry was a coward? He did command a swift boat in Vietnam and was wounded. The main reason he received so much hatred from some in the military was that he spoke out against the Viet Nam war after he left there. What did Bush and Cheney do in Viet Nam? They both dodged it, so who was a coward, anyway?
Kerry was a war hero who also had the courage to speak up against his nation's actions in the war.
